Search Widget — Last updated: August 17, 2026

Overview

Search Widget ("the App") is an Android home screen widget with a keyboard built into it, used to find and launch the apps installed on your device. This privacy policy explains what data the App accesses and how it is handled.

Data Collection

The App does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data with third parties.

The App contains no networking code of any kind. It cannot send data anywhere, because it has no means of doing so.

Data Accessed Locally

The App accesses the following information solely on your device:

Data Storage

The following are stored locally on your device using Android's built-in storage, and nowhere else: the text currently typed into each widget, so that it survives the home screen being redrawn; your settings, being whether app names are shown, which colour palette the widget uses, and the panel's opacity; and the measurements the widget derives from the size your launcher gives it.

No data is stored on external servers or cloud services.

Third-Party Services

The App integrates no third-party analytics, advertising, crash reporting, or tracking services. There are no SDKs, no telemetry, and no data sharing of any kind. It has no third-party dependencies beyond androidx.core.

Permissions

The App requests no permissions at all. There is no runtime permission prompt, because there is nothing to prompt for.

Two entries in the App's manifest are worth explaining, since neither is a permission the App holds:

Manifest entryWhat it is
<queries> for MAIN / LAUNCHER A declaration, not a permission, that lets the App see apps with a launcher entry. It is the narrow alternative to the sensitive QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES permission, which the App does not request.
BIND_REMOTEVIEWS on the results service A permission the App requires of callers, restricting that service to the Android system. It grants the App nothing.

Children's Privacy

The App does not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13. Since it collects no data at all, it is safe for users of all ages.
